Jet Lag
We arrived in Turkey last Wednesday and have been fighting jet lag, and an opressive heatwave, ever since. Two days ago I fell asleep while sketching ideas for my first Artist’s Trading Card. Producing something has been tough but I now have something .
One thing I had read before we arrived in Turkey was that women do not cover their heads like they do in other Muslim countries. I now realize this was a misinterpretation. I should have understood that foreign women do not need to cover their heads when in Turkey (except when visiting a mosque). The majority of women cover their heads. It is mostly with a light, silky scarf, probably because of the heat. I wonder if the scarf material will change with the seasons? The small sketch above is from the balcony of the pension we are staying at, looking out over a street that heads towards the mosque. The call to prayer had just happened and possibly the women walking towards the mosque were going to pray.
These weekly sketches are being done on Artist’s Trading Cards. They are 2.5 inch by 3.5 inch cards and are intended to be traded with others that produce cards. I chose to do these sketches in this size because the works are small and portable, great for traveling. If anyone is interested in trading please post a comment and we’ll talk.
artist’s trading cards. what a neat concept. will you be sharing the ones you receive in trade?
