Ortahisar Village

- Artist's Trading Cards
I set out one morning to capture some of the typical scenes here in Ortahisar. Behind the large mosque, on the main square, the village creeps down into a valley. Some of the homes are occupied but the majority of them are ruins. Everything is built on top of the caves below. Everywhere I look-the architecture, the geology, and the culture-layer upon layer is covering another layer. It is a rich location.
This is not an artist’s trading card but done on A4 (letter sized) paper.
Byron, it’s beautiful! The look reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of the Amalfi coast in Italy.
Wow, what a great drawing. I love it.
That’s a fantastic sketch! It actually reminds me of some places in Spain…
you capture it wonderfully. the layers seem a metaphor.
And how many offers of tea did you have to refuse (and accept) as you sat there, sketching?
No tea offers here. Just a few curious stares. The tea offers came with another sketch, to be posted next week. Thanks to all for the positive comments on this sketch. It was a great way to capture our daily landscape.
It makes me wonder what I’d do if someone came along about started attaching a room to my wall. We have such a different sensibility about property and personal space. We don’t like the hive. We’re such loners.
Funny and nice to see my house on the web (The big on the right side, with a blue door)
@kiristof Glad I could surprise you. Have we met yet?
@Byron. I don’t think we ever met unless you are in the village mid-summer.
the rest of the time a Turkish family is living in the house
