Turkish tea, an ever present element of our Turkish year, provides a wonderful flawed analogy for our imminent departure. The year was sweet like the cubes of sugar and leaving it is bitter. The problem is Turkish tea, brewed in a unique two pot system, is rarely bitter. Oh well.
The clinking of a tiny teaspoon on a glass tulip cup will always conjure up the layers of history, the dramatic and ever changing landscape and our explorations of a culture and people. I will miss it but I look forward to jumping into our life back in the States. We will return and explore Turkey in ways we missed this time around.
“My Trip to Cappadocia” will resume in about a month, after we’ve recovered from jet lag, unpacked our lives, and found where I hid the ink.
